Privacy Policy

Privacy isn't a setting in RenameWise — it's the architecture. This page says exactly what stays on your Mac (almost everything) and what ever crosses the network (almost nothing).

Last updated: August 1, 2026 · Applies to the RenameWise app and the renamewise.com website.

The short version: your files, their names, and their contents never touch the network. The AI runs on your Mac. The app has no account system, no telemetry, and no analytics. The only things that ever cross the wire are the one-time model download, a once-a-day update check you can switch off, and — for paid licenses — your license key, a random install ID, and the app version. Nothing else, ever.

1. What happens on your Mac

Everything that involves your files:

  • AI analysis. The vision model that reads your files is bundled with the app and executes on your Mac's own processor. A file's pixels or text are never sent anywhere to be analyzed.
  • Search index and history. What the model reads, the names it proposes, your rename history and undo journal are stored in local databases under ~/.airenamer/ on your Mac. They sync nowhere.
  • Learned corrections, presets, rules, settings. All local files under ~/.airenamer/. Deleting that folder removes every trace of the app's data.

You can verify this yourself: turn off Wi-Fi. Analysis, renaming, search and history all keep working.

2. The complete list of network connections

ConnectionWhenWhat is transmitted
AI model download Once, on first launch (or if you re-download from Settings) A standard file download from the model's official Hugging Face repository (or our mirror). Your request reveals only what any download does: your IP address and the file requested. Nothing about your files is sent.
Update check At most once a day, on launch. Off with one checkbox in Settings — when off, no request is made at all A request for a small file listing the current version. It carries no identifier, no version number and nothing about you or your files — the comparison happens on your Mac, so the server is never told what you have installed or whether an update was found. Like any web request it reveals your IP address to the host. Updates are always downloaded by you, in your browser.
License activation & periodic re-validation Once at activation; then infrequently, with a long offline grace period Your license key, a random per-install ID (generated by the app — not a hardware fingerprint), and the app version. File names and file contents never touch the network.
Purchases Only if you buy a license Handled entirely by our merchant of record on their site; they process your payment details and email address under their own privacy policy. RenameWise never sees your card number.

That is the whole list. The app contains no telemetry, no crash reporting, no analytics SDK, no advertising identifiers, and no "anonymous usage statistics." There is nothing to opt out of because nothing is collected.

3. What we do not collect

  • Your files, file names, file contents, or thumbnails
  • What the AI reads or the names it proposes
  • Your searches, corrections, presets or rules
  • Usage patterns, feature analytics, or crash dumps
  • Your location, contacts, or anything else on your Mac

Nothing you do in the app is used to train any model, ours or anyone else's — there is no channel through which it could be.

4. This website

renamewise.com is a static site. It sets no tracking cookies, runs no analytics scripts, and embeds no third-party trackers. The one piece of storage it uses is a localStorage entry on your own device remembering your light/dark theme choice; it never leaves your browser. Our hosting provider keeps standard, short-lived server logs (IP address, page requested) for security and capacity, as virtually all hosts do.

5. If you email us

If you write to support@renamewise.com, we keep the correspondence so we can help you, and we don't share it with anyone or add you to any mailing list. Ask us to delete a conversation and we will.

6. Your data, your rights

Because the app's data lives only on your Mac, you already have complete control over it: it's yours to read, export (History → Export), back up, or delete (~/.airenamer/). For the little we do hold — license records with the merchant of record, and any support email — you can request access, correction, or deletion at any time by emailing us. We honor these requests regardless of where you live (GDPR, CCPA, and beyond).

7. Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes, the update will be posted here with a new date. The core promise — your files never leave your Mac — is the product's foundation and will not change.
